Living Well with Seizures
What the group is
Our Living Well with Seizures group is run across seven sessions spaced over around three months. Each session lasts up to two hours, including a break. The focus of this group is the psychological and emotional consequences of experiencing seizures and the treatment that goes with this. Patients attending the group all experience some form of seizures, whether that be due to epilepsy, other causes, or a combination.
What is the purpose of the group?
The Living Well with Seizures group is a great way to connect with others who have experiences of seizures, in a safe and relaxed environment. Support can mean finding understanding, ways to cope, or to feel more in control of living with your seizures. The group aims to help people by:
- Exploring the impact of seizures on our daily lives
- Exploring coping methods to utilise everyday
- Living safely with seizures
- Help you to set realistic goals and learn how to pace activities so that you can live a life more in tune with what is important to you
What can you expect in the group?
You can expect a supportive, non-judgmental environment which is facilitated by experienced health professionals.
In your group there will be multiple coordinators, allowing a breadth of experience and knowledge to best help your needs.
We understand that a group can be a scary place for many, so in the group there is no pressure to speak if you do not feel like it. The group provides a chance to meet other people experiencing similar difficulties to you.
Patients will be provided with information at the start of every session. This will recap what will be discussed in the group, as well as tasks and guidance for strategies taught throughout the course. This will then be given in a full handbook at the very end of the course, allowing you to have all the information in one place.
